A home is like a hill, where we trek on the path wide and narrow with changeable brightness. Sometimes, we walk side by side with our families and sometimes we go further apart. When passing by that tree and going around the pond, we will always meet somewhere else.
We might be on the way up as our families go downhill; but we will always come across each other in the Hillside. Let us cherish the moment of solitude, also celebrate our every chance gathering.
A chapel extension sits above an existing one-story concrete building that now serves as a classroom. In comparison to the rectangular concrete remanent, the new curved roof, made from steel and wooden trellis, reshapes the profile of the mountains beyond. The large panes of glass blurs the boundary between what is inside and out, allowing nature to coexist with the artificial, and man to coexist with the divine.
A single-family home has been convinced to locate at the bottom of the hill. The home is a union of four volumes, separated yet connected based on the programs. Sun, wind, and light fill the gaps in between, allowing the walkways and living space to include elements of the natural world.
This psychiatric hospital takes on a new facade by surrounding its original walls with greeneries and covering the old pipelines with layers of semi-opaque metal mesh. The fragmented interior geometries support functions that meet the client’s needs while also presenting a contrast between the interior facilities and the organic landscape beyond.
